Our school held an annual English Speech Competition on Friday, May 27, 2022. The competition started at 1 pm and ended at 3 pm. The purpose of this competition is not only to promote public speaking, but also to equip students with the oratory skills, help students develop their self-expression and confidence. Besides, it also helps students to overcome stage fear.
All the contestants were divided into three categories which are Category A, Category B, and Category C. Category A were students from S1, S2, S3, F4, and F5. Next, Category B were students from J2, J3, F2, and F3. Lastly, Category C were students from J1 and F1. All contestants were required to give their speech in 3 minutes. After every speech, the judges would discuss the performance and grade the contestants.
There were about 50 students taking part in the competition. Several things that contestants need to improve are the pronunciation, intonation and gestures.
The competition ended with closing remarks made by the judges and a thank you speech given by the EAE members. Overall, the English Elocution Competition of this year went smoothly.
