On 15 April 2026, classrooms S1ST, S1SJ, S1CH, and S1CF were transformed into vibrant centres of creativity and intellectual exchange as students participated in the highly anticipated Collaborative Writing Competition organised by the English Eloquence Mastery Club (EEMC). Held from 3.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., the competition challenged participants to move beyond individual composition and embrace teamwork, communication, and collective creativity.

Centred on the thought-provoking theme, “The Illusion of AI”, the event encouraged students to critically examine the growing influence of artificial intelligence on modern writing and creativity. Participants explored the fine line between authentic human expression and technological imitation, producing thoughtful pieces that reflected both personal insights and collaborative discussions.

The competition aimed not only to cultivate literary skills but also to strengthen collaboration, communication, and critical thinking among students. In an era increasingly shaped by AI-generated content, the organisers sought to emphasise the irreplaceable value of human creativity, emotional depth, and genuine interaction.

One of the event’s most distinctive features was its unique set of regulations. During the initial ten-minute brainstorming session, students were prohibited from using pens, paper, or digital devices. Instead, they relied entirely on verbal discussions and memory retention, encouraging attentive listening, spontaneous idea generation, and effective teamwork. Participants were also required to maintain a quiet and respectful atmosphere throughout the competition.

The programme followed a carefully planned schedule. After attendance registration and a briefing on submission requirements, students entered the brainstorming session at 3.15 p.m. Subsequently, at 3.25 p.m., they began the individual writing segment, transforming their team discussions into personal written pieces over forty minutes.

The competition welcomed various creative formats, including essays, poems, song lyrics, and other literary expressions. Students writing essays were required to produce a minimum of 150 words, while other formats were assessed based on creativity, coherence, and relevance to the theme.

Following the writing session, participants were given fifteen minutes to review and refine the consistency of their collective ideas. This final stage reinforced the collaborative spirit of the competition, allowing students to ensure that their individual contributions aligned with their team’s overall interpretation of the theme.

The event concluded with the collection of scripts and a photography session commemorating the participants’ efforts and achievements before dismissal at 4.30 p.m.

Overall, the Collaborative Writing Competition proved to be both intellectually stimulating and creatively enriching. From analytical reflections on artificial intelligence to emotional explorations of identity and consciousness, students demonstrated remarkable maturity and originality in addressing the concept of “The Illusion of AI”. By temporarily removing the convenience of digital tools and note-taking, the event successfully highlighted the enduring power of human creativity and the importance of collaboration in the modern technological era.

The discipline, enthusiasm, and thoughtful engagement displayed by the participants stand as a testament to the continued relevance of literary arts and further reflect the academic and creative excellence upheld by Chung Ling Private High School.
