The Teachers’ Book Sharing Program was successfully held on 15 August 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at F-1-2 Block, Chung Ling Private High School. The programme was attended by English-speaking teachers and focused on the book No Hard Feelings – The Secret Power of Embracing Emotions at Work. The session aimed to encourage teachers to understand the importance of emotions in the workplace and to develop healthier and more effective ways of managing and expressing them.

The speaker, Jason Tan from GPEX Central Sdn Bhd, is a Teacher Trainer and Lead Trainer in GPEX. He has delivered impactful training programmes across both public and private sectors. His areas of specialisation include public speaking, emcee skills and speaking with confidence. With his experience in training and communication, he facilitated the book-sharing session in an engaging and practical manner.

The central message of the book is that professionalism does not require people to suppress their emotions. Instead, employees should develop emotional fluency, which refers to the ability to recognise emotions, understand what they are communicating, and decide whether and how to express them appropriately. The session highlighted that emotions are a natural part of working life and can provide valuable information when they are understood and managed thoughtfully.

The book explores emotional fluency through seven important areas of working life: health, motivation, decision-making, teams, communication, culture and leadership. The ideas from the book were further explored through group presentations and group discussions. Teachers shared their perspectives and experiences on how emotions can influence their behaviour, communication and relationships at work. These activities provided opportunities for participants to reflect on their own emotional responses and consider more constructive ways of handling workplace situations.

Overall, the Teachers’ Book Sharing Program was an informative and meaningful professional development session. It encouraged teachers to view emotions not as weaknesses or obstacles to professionalism, but as useful sources of information that can support well-being, sound judgment, positive relationships and effective performance when handled appropriately.
