To all dear parents,

The following are some announcements and adjustments by the school due to the extension of MCO and COVID-19 pandemic development:

1. School exams
The following are the new exam dates of the postponed May exam:
I.Exam classes. From 10 June (Wednesday) to 19 June (Friday). Classes: Senior 3 and Junior 3 classes
II.Non-exam classes. From 6 July (Monday) to 16 July (Thursday). Classes: Junior 1, 2; Senior 1, 2; F1M, F1P, F2M, F3M and F4M.

Students are required to continue with their learning progress at home in spite of the postponement.

2. International Class Year Promotion
As the May exam is postponed, this year’s class promotion for F3 and F4 will be postponed from 9 June to 20 July.

3. Hostel Fees
A rebate of RM200 will be given for the April hostel fee in consideration of the exemption of water and electricity bills and meal fees. As such, a rebate of RM200 would be given for the hostel fees of the second half of the year.

4. Online Learning Guide
In response to the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO), the school has made preparations in case the extension would go further beyond. For the past three weeks, the school has informed students to use the Schoology platform to complete their learning progress, yet we assessed that the practice and learning condition requires further improvement. Hence, the school has set an to monitor students’ learning, ensuring and urging students to resume their everyday learning progress at home.

Basic Concept:
Online learning, often referred to as “e- learning”, is a type of distance learning that takes place over the Internet, where students carry out their learning activities. Schoology is the school’s default platform.

Methodology:
1. Everyday lesson recordings, assignments and tests are uploaded on Schoology, and students have to complete the learning assignments according to the given instruction.
2. Teachers will upload lesson recordings that students are required to attend to.
3. The number of recordings are as follows: the default length of each recording is 35 minutes, and the total number of recordings would be 50% of the total number of periods per week. For example, a Junior 3 Chinese would have 7 periods, so the total length of recordings would be 7 x 35 minutes x 50% (about 120 minutes, which makes 3 35-minute recordings and 1 20-minute recording).
4. Recordings would be uploaded according to students’ individual timetables, when the subject teachers’ periods are available. Recordings would not be uploaded all at once. Students would have to keep themselves updated with the latest info on Schoology for their subjects.
5. Teachers would arrange an online Schoology quiz (at least 5 questions, either open or closed-ended) as a follow-up of the recorded lessons on students’ learning performance. The follow-up would be considered as assignment marks. Teachers would also set up other activities according to the individual subject and needs. Students are required to complete the work instructed by the subject teachers.
6. Teachers would create and distribute assignments through Schoology Assignment, of which students are required to complete.
7. Any academic discussions about the lessons could be referred to the teachers, who will be conducting them through the use of Discussions tool on Schoology. The content would be in public view, which would enable other students to refer and learn from. Any after-lesson discussion or Q&A set up by the teacher would be conducted from Monday to Friday, 9:00AM to 3:00PM. The length of discussion would be determined by the teacher, and students would arrange with the teacher to conduct them online. Questions before 3:00PM would be addressed through Discussions tool on that day itself, while those after 3:00PM would be addressed on the next day.

Others:
1)To enable efficient management of student learning, students may use the WhatsApp class group from 9:00am-3:00pm.
2)As some students do not have their course and work books with them at home, teachers would scan or snapshot the materials and upload them on Schoology for students’ references.
3)As public and private education have gone online due to the MCO, in consideration of students who would need to share computers with siblings for online learning, the school has adopted the use of Schoology, which allows flexibility for students and parents to arrange their learning time at home at their convenience.
4)Any student who do not complete their work upon teacher’s instructions will be dealt with disciplinary measures.

We call upon all students to follow teachers’ instructions and lessons and complete their lesson objectives during the MCO.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,
Ng Jooi Seah, Principal
